CMT conducts a variety of tests on a wide range of projects. Different projects require different types of testing . From municipal to commercial jobs, CMT can offer support to our clients. CMT utilizes value engineering to keep projects on track and under budget.

Westlight Apartments – Waukee, Iowa

In 2023, our team provided critical testing and special inspections for the new four-story Westlight Apartments complex. High quality multi-family housing construction projects, like this project, require materials that have been thoroughly inspected and tested to ensure the safety of future tenets. In addition to earthwork and concrete testing, our team performed shear wall tests, nailing pattern verification, and other special inspections to ensure the strength and durability of welds and high-strength bolts as well as value engineering throughout the project.

Kum and Go Store #0098 – West Des Moines, Iowa

This convenience store and gas station located at the intersection of Grand Ave and Raccoon River Drive was built from the ground up with a retention pond to the southeast of the structure. Our testing on this 9,000 sq. ft. steel framed building included testing the concrete, steel, soil, masonry, and testing of the load-bearing soil capacity. In addition, we performed leak-testing compliance on the underground tanks to ensure that the fuel would not seep out and contaminate the soil or water table.

Ashworth Road Bridge Project – West Des Moines, Iowa

Our team worked with the Iowa DOT and Dallas County Construction Division to replace this overpass. In addition to extensive mass grading to ensure correct bridge alignment, this project required 668 ft. of concrete barrier rail, 675 cu yards of high-performance concrete, and 310 cu yards of structural concrete. CMT provided critical soil and concrete testing as well as road smoothness profilometer testing for this 62 ft. wide and 306 ft. long bridge.

Liberty Ready Mix – Van Meter, Iowa Plant

CMT assisted with the geotechnical study during design and the quality control testing during construction of Liberty Ready Mix’s new concrete batch plant, near Van Meter, Iowa. The site contained detention ponds for stormwater control and retaining walls along the north end to protect the creek bank from eroding. A lot of PCC pavement was placed to accommodate the daily batch plant operations.

Overlay Project – Warren County, Iowa

For this project, we assisted Warren County with resurfacing several of their county roads. After using an asphalt mill to remove the top two inches of damaged road surface, we replaced the surfaces with fresh asphalt that we tested daily to ensure proper production mix and density. Additionally, we tested each surface for proper compaction with a nuclear gauge and road smoothness using a profilometer testing equipment.
